Alessandro Altobelli (Sonnino, November 28, 1955), nicknamed "Spillo" (Pin) due to his slender physique, is one of the greatest Italian strikers of the post-World War II era. He is most notably associated with Inter, where he played from 1977 to 1988, appearing in 466 matches and scoring 209 goals—the club's second all-time leading scorer, behind only Giuseppe Meazza—winning one Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles. With the national team, he was a World Champion in 1982, scoring the 3-0 goal in the final in Madrid against West Germany. He participated in two World Cups and two European Championships, totaling 61 appearances and 25 goals in the blue jersey. His last national team appearance was the European semifinal on June 22, 1988, in Stuttgart against the Soviet Union.
