Alessandro Altobelli (Sonnino, November 28, 1955), nicknamed "Spillo" (Italian for "pin") due to his slender physique, is one of the greatest Italian strikers of the post-war period. He is primarily associated with Inter, where he played from 1977 to 1988, making 466 appearances and scoring 209 goals — the club's second all-time leading scorer, behind only Giuseppe Meazza — winning the 1979-80 Scudetto and two Coppa Italia titles. He is also the top Italian goalscorer in UEFA Cup history with 25 goals. With the Italian national team, he was a World Champion in 1982, scoring the third goal in the 3-0 final against West Germany in Madrid, and earned 61 caps, scoring 25 goals for the Azzurri. He remains one of the symbols of Italian football in the 1980s.
