José Mamede is a Portuguese midfielder who dedicated an important part of his career to Reggina. He grew up playing football in Portugal, establishing himself with Vitória Setúbal, with whom he played in the Portuguese top league for several seasons. In 2000, he arrived in Italy at Reggina, in Serie A, scoring a goal in his very first season in the Amaranto shirt. He remained in Calabria even after relegation, playing a leading role in the immediate return to the top league in 2001/2002. He then continued his career with Messina, achieving another promotion to Serie A, and subsequently with Genoa. His time at Reggina was so intense that his son was born in Reggio Calabria, testifying to a deep connection with the city and its colors.
