His most memorable year was 2004/2005: guided by Zdenek Zeman's offensive play, he scored 19 goals, including a historic hat-trick against Lazio. In total, he scored 34 goals in the Lecce jersey, stopping just one goal short of Chevanton's Serie A record. At the end of the 2005/2006 season, he left Salento for Roma, beginning a career that would also take him to Juventus, where he would win three consecutive Scudetti. His Lecce jersey remains a symbol of a champion's beginnings.
