Franco Baresi (Travagliato, May 8, 1960) joined Milan's youth team at fourteen and became captain in 1982, remaining with the club for his entire career until his retirement in 1997. He led the Rossoneri through the golden age between the late 1980s and mid-1990s, winning six Scudetti, three European Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups. In the last years of his career, those with the Opel sponsor, Baresi remained the absolute point of reference for the Rossoneri defense despite his advanced age for a central defender, further testimony to his class and leadership. His number 6 was retired by Milan at the end of his career, a tribute reserved for very few captains in the history of Italian football.
