Arriving at Parma in 1996 from River Plate, during his first spell with the "crociati" he won a UEFA Cup, an Italian Supercup, and an Italian Cup, becoming a fan idol also thanks to the famous goal in 2000 against Juventus with 9 men against 11. After experiences with Lazio, Inter, Chelsea, Milan, and Genoa, he decided to end his career where it all began: in January 2010 he returned to Parma, becoming a regular starter in the 2010/2011 season and finishing the year as the team's top scorer in the league. He officially retired in February 2012 as Parma's all-time leading scorer in Serie A, with a total of 94 goals in 201 appearances. In 2013, he was voted the club's "player of the century."
