FC Barcelona 2009/10 Away Jersey – Lionel Messi – No. 10 – Player Issued – Nike – Champions League – Long Sleeve

Lionel Messi's 2009/10 Barcelona Away shirt: the orange of the European champions

The official FC Barcelona away shirt for the 2009/2010 season is one of the most iconic kits of the Guardiola era. Produced by Nike in a brilliant mango orange, it features a black crew neck and cuffs, and on the chest, the Nike swoosh, the FCB crest, and the Unicef logo, a symbol of the club's charitable bond. This specific shirt is the long-sleeved version prepared for UEFA Champions League matches: the right sleeve features the 2009 Champions titleholder patch with the "big ears" trophy and the lettering MMIX, won in Rome against Manchester United, while the UEFA Respect patch stands out on the left sleeve. Under the collar are the Catalan senyera and the motto "més que un club". On the back, the blue European nameset with gold trim displays the name MESSI and the number 10.

The player: Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi (Rosario, June 24, 1987) is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time. Raised at La Masia, he linked his career to Barcelona for over fifteen seasons in the first team, becoming their all-time top scorer. The 2009/10 season was the year of his definitive breakthrough: in December 2009, he won his first Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player award, finished the calendar year with Barça having won six out of six trophies, and at the end of the season scored 47 goals in all competitions, becoming the Pichichi of La Liga and the European Golden Shoe winner. His four-goal haul against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals remains memorable. With the blaugrana shirt, he won 4 Champions League titles and 10 Spanish league championships, before crowning his career with the 2022 World Cup while leading Argentina.

What is a Player Issued shirt?

A Player Issued shirt is a kit specifically prepared for the first team's supply, intended for the player but not necessarily worn in an official match. It differs from the commercial version due to precise technical characteristics: match-ready cut and fabric, official competition patches, team-supplied namesets, and dedicated labels. This item features the Nike Team label with the inscription "Engineered to the exact specifications of championship athletes" and code 14132207, the printed wash label in Spanish, typical of club supply, and the UEFA Champions League patches. The long-sleeved version, produced in very limited quantities, makes it even rarer and highly sought after by collectors.
