Paolo Conte was born in Asti on January 6, 1937. A law graduate and practicing lawyer, he approached jazz as a self-taught musician playing piano and vibraphone, while beginning to compose songs with his brother Giorgio. As a songwriter, he penned songs that would become milestones in Italian pop music, including Azzurro and La coppia più bella del mondo for Adriano Celentano. In 1974, he abandoned his legal career to dedicate himself entirely to music, releasing his first self-titled album. Full success came in 1979 with Un gelato al limon, followed by masterpieces such as Paris Milonga and Via con me. Along with Fabrizio De André, he is the artist with the most awards from the Club Tenco, with six Tenco Plaques and a Tenco Award, as well as a David di Donatello for the soundtrack of La freccia azzurra. Appreciated worldwide, particularly in France, he remains one of the most original and refined voices in the Italian singer-songwriter scene.
