Pierluigi Martini, known as Piero (Lugo, April 23, 1961), is an Italian former racing driver inextricably linked to the history of Minardi. He participated in over 118 Formula 1 Grand Prix, the vast majority of which were with the Faenza team, of which he was the symbolic and most loyal driver: he holds the team's best results, including a historic fourth place and leading the race for a lap in the 1989 Portuguese Grand Prix. After winning the European Formula 3 Championship in 1983, he built a long career in the Circus, also racing for Toleman and Scuderia Italia. Outside Formula 1, he achieved his most prestigious triumph: victory at the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans driving the BMW V12 LMR. His signature is a beloved item for fans of Italian motorsport.
