The breakthrough came in 2015 with Suburra, in which he played the mob boss Aureliano Adami, a role he reprised in the Netflix series of the same name, and with Non essere cattivo by Claudio Caligari, which earned him a David di Donatello nomination. In 2017, he won the Nastro d'Argento for best supporting actor for Fortunata and was appointed godfather of the 74th Venice International Film Festival. In 2018, he played Stefano Cucchi in Sulla mia pelle, winning the David di Donatello, while in 2023 he won a second Nastro d'Argento for best leading actor for Le otto montagne. With a career spanning from art house cinema to international productions such as Diavoli with Patrick Dempsey, Alessandro Borghi is now one of the most talented and sought-after Italian actors of his generation.
