Empoli Home 1999/2000 Player Issued jersey signed by Simone Del Nero

This is the first Empoli jersey from the late nineties, made by Errea with the historic Sammontana sponsor prominently displayed on the chest, above the Gelviva Italiana logo. The tone-on-tone jacquard pattern with the repeated "Empoli Football Club 1920" text throughout the fabric, the contrasting white collar, and the club crest featuring a historic building complete a design typical of Italian football from that era. On the left sleeve is the Lega Calcio patch in the version used before the introduction of the Serie A TIM brand. This XXL size example is a Player Issued version, reserved for the team's kit. On the back, the nameset DEL NERO with the number 33; in addition to the signature, the player added the handwritten dedication "Con simpatia" (With sympathy). There are some slight light-colored spots on the collar, which are entirely compatible with the age of the piece: Excellent condition considering it is over twenty-five years old.

The Player: Simone Del Nero

Simone Del Nero (Carrara, August 4, 1981) is a former Italian footballer who came up through the Empoli youth academy, where, in the Primavera team coached by Luciano De Paola, he won the Viareggio Tournament in 2000. A left winger with great drive and capable of playing multiple roles on the flank, he left the Azzurri club in 2000 to move to Brescia, where he would play seven seasons between loans and the first team. With the Under-21 national team, he won the 2004 European Championship and a bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. In 2007, he moved to Lazio, with whom he won an Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana. This jersey documents his last years at the club that launched him into professional football.
