Walter Hill began his career as a screenwriter in the 1970s, penning the script for Sam Peckinpah's Getaway! (1972). He made his directorial debut in 1975 with Hard Times, and in 1979 he directed his masterpiece, The Warriors, which became an absolute cult classic of New York genre cinema. In the 1980s, he solidified his style with Streets of Fire (1984), Southern Comfort, and especially 48 Hrs. (1982), a buddy movie starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte that revolutionized Hollywood action-comedy.
In addition to directing, Hill is a key producer of the Alien saga: he wrote the original story, produced Ridley Scott's Alien (1979), James Cameron's Aliens (1986), and the subsequent chapters. He continues to direct genre films such as Red Heat (1988), Trespass (1992), and Bullet to the Head (2012), maintaining a recognizable authorial voice. He has also worked in television, creating the series Deadwood with David Milch.
