Career

Valentino Rossi was born in Urbino on February 16, 1979, the son of former rider Graziano Rossi. He made his debut in the MotoGP World Championship in 1996 in the 125cc class with Aprilia, and the following year he won his first world title, marking the beginning of an unprecedented career. In 1999 he won the 250cc title, and in 2001, the 500cc World Championship — the last in history before the advent of MotoGP. From 2002, he dominated the new premier class, winning five consecutive MotoGP titles (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) plus the 2008 and 2009 titles, for a total of nine world crowns, making him the second most successful rider in MotoGP history. He is the only rider ever to have won titles in four different classes: 125cc, 250cc, 500cc, and MotoGP. Having ridden for Honda, Yamaha, and briefly Ducati, his bond with Yamaha and the number 46 have become absolute symbols of world motorcycling. He retired from motorcycle racing in 2021 after 26 seasons in the MotoGP World Championship. Since 2014, he has owned the VR46 team, which continues his legacy in the paddock. In 2025, he was inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame as a Legend.
