The Blucerchiati Story
Unione Calcio Sampdoria was founded on August 12, 1946, from the merger of two historic Genoese clubs, Andrea Doria and Sampierdarenese, giving rise to a name that synthesizes the roots of the two original clubs: Sampierdarena and Doria. The blucerchiati (blue-circled) colours, inspired by the historical flag of the Republic of Genoa, immediately became the club's identifying symbol. The golden decade came under the presidency of Paolo Mantovani in the 1980s and 90s, with Vujadin Boškov first and then Sven-Göran Eriksson as coach: Sampdoria won the first and only Scudetto in its history in 1990-91 with the goal-scoring duo Mancini-Vialli, supported by champions like Toninho Cerezo, Pietro Vierchowod, Gianluca Pagliuca, Hans-Peter Briegel, and Attilio Lombardo. The team reached the 1992 European Cup final at Wembley, lost only in extra time against Johan Cruyff's Barcelona. In the same decade, the blucerchiati won the 1989-90 Cup Winners' Cup against Anderlecht, four Coppa Italia titles (1985, 1988, 1989, 1994), and a Supercoppa Italiana in 1991. Boškov-Mantovani's Sampdoria marked an era in Italian football for its technical quality, offensive spectacle, and elegance. In the years following Mantovani's death, the club alternated between Serie A and Serie B, always maintaining its connection with the city of Genoa through the heartfelt Derby della Lanterna against Genoa. Among the great figures in Blucerchiati history are Roberto Mancini, Gianluca Vialli, Pietro Vierchowod, Trevor Francis, Liam Brady, Toninho Cerezo, Gianluca Pagliuca, Attilio Lombardo, Antonio Cassano, Walter Zenga, Vincenzo Montella, Fabio Quagliarella, and captain Manolo Gabbiadini.
Sampdoria Jerseys: autographed store, player issued, and match worn
The Sampdoria jerseys available on MTM Memorabilia represent a high-level collectible documentation of the blucerchiati club. The catalog includes three distinct types of official jerseys. Autographed store jerseys are commercial versions signed by the protagonists of Doriana's history, from the 1991 Scudetto champions to contemporary players. Player-issued jerseys are official items assigned by the club to players for training, the bench, or as reserves, identical to the game jerseys but not used in official matches. Match-worn jerseys are actually worn on the field during official competitions, the rarest and most sought-after item by international collectors. Each jersey covers different seasons and protagonists: from the Pouchain, Adidas, Patrick, ASICS, and Sport All eras of the Blucerchiati triumphs in the eighties, to the Errea, Kappa, Lotto, Diadora, and Macron eras of the new millennium, with historical sponsors like Mantovani Editore, ERG, Cogei, Ipa Vacanze, Eridania, Marcora, and Marathon Bet, up to the recent Macron seasons. The provenance of each jersey is documented, and authenticity is verified by our experts.
