Career
Roberto Donadoni was born in Cisano Bergamasco, in the province of Bergamo, on September 9, 1963, and grew up playing football in Atalanta's youth academy, where he made his Serie A debut on September 16, 1984. In the summer of 1986, he became the first major signing of AC Milan during the Silvio Berlusconi era, ushering in one of the most successful dynasties in European football. Under the guidance of Arrigo Sacchi first and then Fabio Capello, Donadoni established himself as a pure-class right winger, endowed with refined technique, game vision, and exceptional tactical versatility. A cornerstone of the "Grande Milan" alongside Baresi, Maldini, and the Dutch trio of Gullit-Rijkaard-Van Basten, he won 6 Scudetti (1987-88, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1998-99), 3 European Cups/Champions Leagues (1989, 1990, 1994), 2 Intercontinental Cups, and 3 European Super Cups. In 12 seasons with the Rossoneri, he made 390 appearances and scored 23 goals. In 1996, he moved to the New York MetroStars in the inaugural MLS season, then returned to AC Milan in 1997, and ended his career at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia in 2000. He made his national team debut on October 8, 1986, against Greece and was a key player in Euro 1988, the 1990 World Cup (semifinal lost on penalties to Argentina), USA 1994 (World Cup runner-up after losing the final to Brazil), and Euro 1996, totaling 63 appearances and 5 goals. A Knight OMRI since 1991, Michel Platini called him "the best Italian player of the nineties." As a coach, he managed Lecco, Livorno, Genoa, and in 2006, he replaced Lippi as the national team coach, leading the Azzurri to the Euro 2008 quarterfinals. He then coached Napoli, Cagliari, Parma, Bologna, and Shenzhen in China. On November 4, 2025, after a five-year break, he was appointed coach of Spezia in Serie B.
Why collect a Roberto Donadoni autograph
An original Roberto Donadoni autograph is one of the most sought-after pieces for collectors interested in Sacchi's and Capello's "Grande Milan" and the Italian national team of the nineties. "Luci a San Siro" is considered one of the most complete Italian football players of his generation, praised by Platini as "the best Italian of the nineties" and included by Franco Baresi in his all-time TOP 11 teammates. His signature is particularly valuable on AC Milan's Rossoneri jerseys from the historic seasons between 1987 and 1999, on iconic photographs of the 1989, 1990, and 1994 European Cup victories, on posters from the 1994 World Cup final against Brazil, and on memorabilia related to Italian victories in the Champions League and Intercontinental Cup. The collectible value is further supported by his status as a Knight OMRI since 1991, the rarity of Donadoni's public appearances—a reserved and shy figure—and his recent return to the dugout with Spezia in November 2025.
