Paolo Maldini was born in Milan on June 26, 1968, into a family deeply connected to AC Milan — his father Cesare was a player and coach for the Rossoneri club. He made his debut in the first team in 1985 at just 16 years old and from that moment on, he never left the Milan jersey until his retirement in 2009, accumulating 902 official appearances in Rossoneri colors over 24 seasons. Initially a left-back and later a central defender, he is the absolute symbol of Italian defense in the Nineties and Two thousands: elegant, anticipatory, lethal in duels. With Milan, he won 5 Champions Leagues, 7 Serie A titles, 5 European Super Cups, 4 Italian Super Cups, and 2 Intercontinental Cups. With the Italian national team, he participated in four World Cups and two European Championships, becoming one of the players with the most appearances for the Azzurri. Milan retired his number 3 in his honor — a very rare tribute in Italian football — and in 2019, he was inducted into the FIFA Hall of Fame.
