Career
Mauro Tassotti was born in Rome on January 19, 1960. After his debut with Lazio in 1978, in 1980 he joined AC Milan where he would remain for seventeen consecutive seasons, a record for loyalty in the history of the Rossoneri club. With Milan, he won five Scudetti (1987-88, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1995-96), three European Cups/Champions Leagues (1988-89, 1989-90, 1993-94), four Italian Supercups, three UEFA Supercups, and two Intercontinental Cups — for a total of seventeen official trophies. He was a cornerstone of Arrigo Sacchi's legendary "Immortals" AC Milan defensive line and then Fabio Capello's AC Milan, deployed as a right-back alongside Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, Filippo Galli, and Christian Panucci — considered by many to be the best defense in football history. He made his debut for the Italian National Team in 1992 at over thirty years old, called up by Sacchi, and played in the 1994 USA World Cup, winning a silver medal. After retiring in 1997, he remained with Milan for almost twenty years as assistant coach, collaborating with Carlo Ancelotti, Leonardo, Massimiliano Allegri, and many others. From 2016 to 2021, he served as assistant coach for the Ukrainian National Team, before briefly returning to Italy as assistant coach for the Italian National Team.
