Career
Marco Materazzi grew up in the Messina youth academy and made a name for himself in Serie A with Perugia, where he became one of the most physical and feared defenders in the league. In 2001, he moved to Inter, a club with which he would be associated for ten seasons. With the Nerazzurri, he won five consecutive Scudetti (from 2005-06 to 2009-10), four Coppa Italia titles, four Italian Supercups, the 2010 UEFA Champions League, and the 2010 Club World Cup, the culmination of Mourinho's treble.
With the Italian national team, he made 41 appearances and was an absolute protagonist in the 2006 World Cup in Germany: he scored the equalizer in the final in Berlin against France and converted the decisive penalty in the shootout. He was the last Italian to lift the World Cup. After retiring in 2011, he embarked on a coaching career, with experiences in India with Chennaiyin, with whom he won the championship in 2015.
