The Career
Horacio Raúl Pagani was born in Casilda, in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, on November 10, 1955, to a family of Italian descent (his great-grandfather was from Appiano Gentile). From childhood, he drew and built model cars, driven by a passion for Leonardo da Vinci. At twenty, he designed and built his first single-seater, attracting the attention of Oreste Berta. In 1982, on the advice of Juan Manuel Fangio — a five-time Formula 1 world champion and a key figure in his development — he moved to Italy. He worked at Lamborghini in the 1980s, where he designed, among other things, the Countach Anniversary, and became a pioneer in the use of carbon fiber applied to road cars. In 1991, he founded Modena Design, and in 1992, Pagani Automobili, in San Cesario sul Panaro. In 1999, he presented the Zonda C12 at the Geneva Motor Show, a Mercedes-AMG V12-powered hypercar dedicated to Fangio, who had passed away a few months earlier: the model became a global icon of automotive design. In 2011, he launched the Huayra, named after the Andean god of wind, featuring active aerodynamics and Carbo-Titanium. In September 2022, he presented the Utopia in Milan, the Atelier's third model, produced in 99 coupé units, all sold, with an 864 horsepower Mercedes-AMG V12 engine and a seven-speed manual transmission. On July 30, 2024, he unveiled the Utopia Roadster, limited to 130 units with a starting price of approximately $3.4 million, with initial US deliveries in May 2025. Between January and February 2026, Pagani Automobili will participate with four hypercars at the Salon Rétromobile in Paris and The ICE St. Moritz, confirming its position as a global leader in Italian artisan hypercars.
Why Collect an Autograph by Horacio Pagani
An original autograph by Horacio Pagani is one of the most sought-after pieces in high-end automotive collecting and contemporary Italian industrial design. Pagani is considered one of the three leading hypercar designers in the world alongside Christian von Koenigsegg and Gordon Murray, and he is the only living Italian entrepreneur to have created a global automotive brand from scratch. His signature is particularly valuable on the illustrated books Pagani Hypercars d'Autore, on iconic photographs with the Zonda, Huayra, and Utopia, on posters and materials from the Pagani Atelier in San Cesario sul Panaro, and on memorabilia related to the most iconic models such as the Zonda F, Huayra BC, and Utopia Coupé. The collectible value is supported by the legacy of Juan Manuel Fangio — his mentor — the rarity of Pagani's public appearances, who is now a private figure dedicated to his work in the atelier, and the extremely limited production run of each of his models (never more than 130 units per version).
