George Russell

George William Russell (King's Lynn, 15 February 1998) is a British racing driver who will lead the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team from 2025. GP3 champion in 2017 and Formula 2 champion in 2018 at the first attempt in both categories, after a Formula 1 debut with Williams, he joined Mercedes in 2022 alongside Lewis Hamilton, where he secured his first victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix that same year. Winner of six Grands Prix in his career, he has been a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA), the Formula 1 drivers' union, since 2021.

Career

George William Russell was born in King's Lynn, Norfolk, on February 15, 1998, the third child of Steve and Alison Russell. Raised in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, he attended Wisbech Grammar School before moving to Milton Keynes at age 18 to be closer to racing teams. He started karting in 2006, at just eight years old, influenced by his older brother Benjy, who was also a karting driver. In 2012, he won the CIK-FIA European Championship in the KF3 class, his first international title, which paved the way for his move into single-seater racing. In 2014, he debuted in British Formula 4 with Lanan Racing, winning the championship in his inaugural season with five victories. In the same year, he received the Autosport BRDC Award sponsored by McLaren—a prestigious recognition for young British drivers that also earned him his first Formula 1 test.

His path through the junior categories marked him as a prodigy: in 2017, he won the GP3 Series on his first attempt with ART Grand Prix, and the following year, he became Formula 2 champion—also on his first attempt—with seven victories and a 66-point lead over fellow countryman Lando Norris. Joining the Mercedes young driver program in 2017, he debuted in Formula 1 in 2019 with Williams alongside Robert Kubica, remaining with the Grove team until 2021. In the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, replacing Lewis Hamilton who tested positive for Covid, he narrowly missed victory in the Mercedes due to a pit stop error and a puncture, but still scored his first career points with the fastest lap. In 2021, he achieved his first F1 podium in the chaotic Belgian Grand Prix, which was halted after two laps in the rain.

In 2022, Russell was officially promoted to Mercedes-AMG Petronas alongside Lewis Hamilton and immediately proved himself among the best: he finished the season fourth in the Drivers' Championship with his first pole position in Hungary, eight podiums, and his first career victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos. After a winless 2023 season for Mercedes, in 2024 he won the Austrian and Las Vegas Grands Prix. In 2025—his first year as team leader after Hamilton's departure for Ferrari—he won in Canada and Singapore alongside his Italian teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, finishing fourth in the standings with 319 points, his best career result, and leading Mercedes to second place in the Constructors' Championship. In the 2026 season, currently underway with new technical regulations, Russell opened with a victory at the Australian Grand Prix and is one of the main contenders for the world title. Nicknamed "Mr. Saturday" for his qualifying performances, he has been a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association since 2021.

Why collect a George Russell autograph

George Russell represents one of the most solid figures in the new era of Formula 1, with six career victories to his name and the role of team leader for a legendary team like Mercedes-AMG Petronas. His signature is a memento of a transitional era in F1, from the end of the Hamilton-Mercedes era to a new generation that also includes the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, his teammate. For Italian collectors of motorsport memorabilia, original Russell autographs are particularly significant due to his connection with the young talent from Bologna.

Considered one of the most complete drivers on the current grid and a concrete candidate for the world title in the coming seasons, Russell is a solid mid-term investment: autographed photos from his Williams years, cards from his Mercedes seasons, and memorabilia related to his six historic victories—São Paulo 2022, Austria and Las Vegas 2024, Canada and Singapore 2025, Australia 2026—are pieces destined to appreciate significantly if the 2026 season brings his first world title.
