Having come up through the AC Milan youth system, Davide Astori built his career as a central defender, playing for some of the most prestigious clubs in Italian football. After formative years on loan at Pizzighettone, Cremonese, and Cagliari, he became a stalwart of the Sardinian defense for several seasons. In 2014, he moved to Roma, and the following year to Fiorentina, where he truly made his mark, wearing the captain's armband. He made 14 appearances for the Italian national team, participating in the Euro 2016 qualifiers under Antonio Conte. His sudden passing on March 4, 2018, at just 31 years old, deeply affected the world of Italian and international football.
