Career
Daniele Massaro was born in Monza on May 23, 1961. A forward endowed with great tactical intelligence, speed, and an ability to make runs into space, he was one of the protagonists of Italian football in the 1980s and 1990s. Having come up through the Monza youth system, he made his Serie A debut at a very young age with Fiorentina in 1980, a team with which he played five seasons as a key player. In 1986, he joined Milan, a club where he would become one of the most representative figures of its golden era. With the Rossoneri, he experienced a period of great resurgence: under the guidance of Arrigo Sacchi first and then Fabio Capello, he won four Scudetti (1987-88, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94), three Italian Supercups, two European Cups (1988-89, 1989-90) and, above all, the historic 1993-94 Champions League, won in the legendary Athens final against Cruyff's Barcelona. On that night of May 18, 1994, Massaro wrote his name in history by scoring a decisive brace in the 4-0 thrashing of the Blaugrana by Milan, one of the most memorable performances in the history of Champions League finals. He also added two Intercontinental Cups and one UEFA Super Cup to his trophy cabinet. With the Italian national team, he experienced two fundamental World Cups: Spain 1982 as a very young player, when he lifted the World Cup with Enzo Bearzot's team, becoming a World Champion at just 21 years old, and USA 1994 as a veteran, contributing to the Azzurri's journey to the final, which they then lost on penalties to Brazil. In total, he made 15 appearances and scored 1 goal for the national team. In 1995, he ended his European experience by moving to Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan, where he played two seasons, bringing his experience to the Japanese league before retiring from professional football in 1997.
