Daniele De Rossi was born in Rome on July 24, 1983, the son of Alberto De Rossi, a historic coach of the Giallorossi youth team. He began playing in the Ostiamare youth system in 1997, and at 16, he joined the Roma youth team where he was converted to a midfielder. He made his Serie A debut on October 30, 2001, in Roma-Anderlecht in the Champions League. He quickly became a pillar of the Giallorossi squad, embodying the role of a modern box-to-box midfielder: physical strength, vision, a powerful shot, and leadership. With Roma, he played 616 official matches and scored 63 goals between 2001 and 2019, second only to Francesco Totti. With the Giallorossi, he won two Coppa Italia titles (2006-07, 2007-08) and one Italian Supercup (2007), narrowly missing out on the Scudetto in 2007-08. In 2019, he left Roma after 18 seasons and moved to Boca Juniors, ending his career in January 2020. With the Italian national team, he played in three World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and three European Championships, totaling 117 caps—the fifth-most capped Italian player ever, tied with Giorgio Chiellini. His masterpiece was the victory at Germany 2006 under Marcello Lippi, where he was a key player up to the final in Berlin against France, decided by penalties. With the Azzurri, he also reached the Euro 2012 final and secured third place in the 2013 Confederations Cup. In January 2024, he was called by Roma after Mourinho's dismissal, leading the Giallorossi to the Europa League semi-final, but he was sacked on September 18, 2024. On January 24, 2025, he acquired ownership of Ostiamare, becoming its president and leading the club to promotion to Serie C in April 2026. On November 6, 2025, he was appointed coach of Genoa, saving the Rossoblù from relegation with three games to spare on May 4, 2026.
