Career
Cristian Chivu began his career at CSM Reșița, his hometown club, before moving to Universitatea Craiova in 1998. In the summer of 1999, he joined Ajax, where he established himself as one of Europe's most promising defenders: in 2001, at just 21 years old, Ronald Koeman named him captain, making him the youngest in the history of the Lancers to wear the armband. In Amsterdam, he won a Dutch championship, a national cup, and a Supercup. In 2003, he was acquired by Roma for 18 million euros: in his four years with the Giallorossi, he formed one of Europe's best defensive partnerships with Walter Samuel and Philippe Mexès, winning an Coppa Italia. In July 2007, he moved to Inter, the club where he truly consecrated his career: in seven seasons, he won three consecutive Scudetti, two Coppa Italia, two Supercoppa Italiana, and above all, the historic 2010 UEFA Champions League as part of Mourinho's Treble-winning team. He retired in 2014 after 169 appearances and 3 goals for the Nerazzurri. He played 75 matches as a pillar and captain for the Romanian national team.
