Career
Alessandro Nesta grew up in the Lazio youth academy, making his Serie A debut in 1993 and winning the 1999-2000 Scudetto, a Cup Winners' Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles, all while wearing the captain's armband. In 2002, he moved to AC Milan for approximately 30 billion lire, a record sum for a defender. With the Rossoneri, he formed a historic central defensive partnership with Paolo Maldini and won two Champions League titles (2003, 2007), a Coppa Italia, a Scudetto, a Supercoppa Italiana, two UEFA Super Cups, and the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup.
He earned 78 caps with the Italian national team and won the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In 2011, he ended his career at Milan and moved to the Montreal Impact in the United States, before finishing his playing career in India with Chennaiyin in 2014. He was nominated for the Ballon d'Or three times, achieving a fifth-place finish in 2000. After retirement, he began a career as a coach.
