2011/12 FC Barcelona Away Jersey – Lionel Messi – No. 10 – Player Issued – Nike – La Liga

Lionel Messi's 2011/12 Barcelona away shirt: the pinnacle of the Guardiola era

The FC Barcelona official away shirt for the 2011/2012 season is one of the most elegant kits of the Nike era. The black body in perforated Dri-Fit technical fabric is embellished with grey details on the shoulders and bright yellow graphics: the Nike swoosh, the Qatar Foundation lettering—the first commercial sponsor in the club's history—and the UNICEF logo on the back. Standing out on the chest are the FCB crest and the golden FIFA World Champions 2011 patch, earned in Yokohama in December 2011 with a 4-0 win over Santos. The LFP Liga patch is applied on the right sleeve, while a TV3 patch is on the left; below the collar, the Catalan "senyera" and the "més que un club" motto stand out. On the back, the official yellow nameset features the name MESSI and the number 10.

The player: Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi (Rosario, June 24, 1987) is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time. Raised at La Masia, he tied his career to Barcelona for over fifteen seasons in the first team, becoming its all-time top scorer with more than 670 official goals. The 2011/12 season was one of absolute records: 73 goals in all competitions, 50 in La Liga alone, a record never equaled in European football. That year, he lifted the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and the Copa del Rey, winning his third consecutive Ballon d'Or. In the blaugrana shirt, he won 4 Champions League titles and 10 Spanish championships, before crowning his career with the 2022 World Cup leading Argentina and reaching a total of eight Ballons d'Or.

What is a Player Issued shirt?

A Player Issued shirt is a kit specifically prepared for the first team's supply, intended for the player but not necessarily worn in an official match. It is distinguished from the commercial version by precise technical characteristics: match cut and fabric, official competition patches, team-supplied nameset, and dedicated labels. This item is identified by the Nike Authentic label with serial number 015491655, the printed wash label in Spanish—typical of club supplies—and the LFP and FIFA World Champions 2011 patches. It is hierarchically superior to the store version and inferior only to a Match Worn shirt. Featuring Messi's name in his most prolific season, it is a piece of the highest value for any collector.
