The Protagonist: Lorenzo Squizzi

Lorenzo Squizzi (Domodossola, June 20, 1974) is one of the most beloved figures in the recent history of ChievoVerona, where he spent almost twenty years between playing and coaching. He grew up in the Juventus youth system and made his Serie A debut with Marcello Lippi's Bianconeri in the 1994/95 season, winning the Scudetto and Coppa Italia. After a long journey through Serie B and Serie C with numerous Italian teams, in 2005 he arrived at ChievoVerona as a second goalkeeper, progressively becoming the starter: he was among the protagonists of the 2007/08 season, the year in which Chievo won Serie B and returned to the top flight. He remained in Verona for nine consecutive years, playing 44 Serie A matches, until his last appearance on May 19, 2014, against Inter, wearing the captain's armband. Hanging up his gloves in August 2014, he immediately began a career as a goalkeeper coach, first in the club's youth sector and then—from mid-2014/15 season—on the first team staff led by Rolando Maran. The number 18 jersey from this season is therefore an extraordinarily rare piece: the professional kit of a man who embodied the values of the gialloblù club for almost two decades.
