Vittorio Tosto's Player Issued Jersey: A Relic of Italian Serie B Signed by Asics

The official second jersey of Empoli FC for the 2008/09 – 2009/10 season, in its Player Issued version, is an authentic and rare piece of Italian football from those years. The white kit with blue inserts is made by Asics, the technical sponsor of the Azzurri club from 2004-2012, with professional finishes and details exclusive to the team supply. On the front, the main sponsor Limonta Sport stands out with its characteristic green banner, alongside Computer Gross, a historic commercial partner of the Tuscan club founded in 1920 — as the inscription "Since 1920" on the collar reminds us. The official Lega Calcio Serie B TIM patch is applied on the left sleeve, certifying the competitive category and the production era. The back is personalized with the surname TOSTO and the number 4, the one worn by the Calabrian left-back during his time in the blue jersey. The internal label shows 100% polyester and Made in Italy, confirming the high-quality national production typical of Asics supplies of that era. A specimen with a precise and documented history, preserved for over fifteen years in conditions that testify to the care with which it has been preserved over time.

The Player: Vittorio Tosto

Vittorio Tosto (Cariati, June 14, 1974) is a former Italian footballer who played as a left-back, one of the most appreciated figures in Italian football between the nineties and the early 2000s. Developed at Fiorentina, he built a long and rich career playing in the Italian championships with Salernitana, Piacenza, Sampdoria, Napoli, Genoa, Ascoli, and Empoli, a club with which he made 128 league appearances and also served as captain. His honors include four promotions — three of which were earned on the field — with Salernitana, Piacenza, and Genoa. Arriving in Empoli during the winter transfer window of 2006, Tosto remained in Tuscany for four and a half seasons, experiencing both the satisfactions of Serie A and the battles of Serie B in the blue jersey, becoming a cornerstone of the defense and a reference point for the locker room. His career is one of a serious and rigorous professional, a symbol of authentic football where a career is built on the field, week after week. The number 4 with the Empoli jersey marks one of the last chapters of his history in professional football.

What is a Player Issued jersey?

A Player Issued jersey is a kit prepared specifically for a certain player but not necessarily worn in an official match. It differs from the commercial version by a series of precise technical characteristics: professional finishes, personalization with the player's name and number, match-grade cut and materials, exclusive technical details reserved for the team supply. It is hierarchically superior to the store version and inferior only to the Match Worn. For collectors, it represents an authentic piece of very high historical and commercial value, often impossible to find on the market years after its production.
