Massimo Paganin's Player Issued Jersey: A Relic of 1990s Serie A

The official Bologna FC 1909 away jersey for the 1998/1999 season in its Player Issued version is a rare and extraordinary relic of vintage Italian football. The yellow away kit with blue and red collar and cuffs, made by Diadora in Italy from 100% polyester, represents one of the most iconic kits of the Rossoblù era of the nineties: Granarolo sponsor clearly visible on the front, embroidered club badge on the chest, official Lega Calcio patch sewn on the sleeve — an exclusive detail of the team supply. The long-sleeved version is typically prepared for defensive players, and the technical finishes clearly distinguish this item from any commercial version available at the time. The back is customized with the name PAGANIN and the number 4 with the Diadora logo imprinted on the number itself, an exclusive feature of the match kits of that season. Size XL, consistent with the physical characteristics of the Vicenza defender. A piece that has passed almost thirty years with colors, fabric, and details perfectly intact.

The Player: Massimo Paganin

Massimo Paganin (Vicenza, July 19, 1970) is an Italian central defender who wrote important pages of Serie A football between the nineties and the early 2000s. Having grown up in Fiorentina and established himself as a starter at Inter, in September 1997 he joined Bologna where he spent three high-level seasons, making 92 appearances and participating in one of the most exciting chapters in the club's recent history. In the 1998/99 season, he wore this number 4 jersey in an extraordinary year for the Rossoblù: Carlo Mazzone's Bologna reached the semifinals of the Coppa Italia and the semifinals of the UEFA Cup, returning to prominence on a European scale after winning the 1998 Intertoto Cup. Paganin was one of the defensive pillars of that team, thanks to his speed, aerial strength, and professionalism that distinguished him for over twenty years of his career. Today a pundit and TV commentator for Mediaset, his Rossoblù number 4 remains one of the symbols of that Bologna cycle that lives on in the fans' memory.

What is a Player Issued Jersey?

A Player Issued jersey is a kit specifically prepared for a particular player but not necessarily worn in an official match. It differs from the commercial version due to a series of precise technical characteristics: professional finishes, customizations with the player's name and number, match-grade cut and materials, exclusive technical details reserved for the team supply. It is hierarchically superior to the store version and inferior only to the Match Worn. For collectors, it represents an authentic piece of extremely high historical and commercial value, often impossible to find on the market years after its production. In the case of vintage jerseys over twenty years old, the collector's value increases further in relation to the rarity of the item, the player's profile, and the relevant sporting season.
