The person: Carlo Tavecchio

Carlo Tavecchio (Ponte Lambro, July 13, 1943 – Erba, January 28, 2023) was an Italian sports executive, President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) from 2014 to 2017. After a long managerial career culminating in fifteen years at the helm of the National Amateur League, he rose to the top of Italian football in 2014, entrusting the national team's bench to Antonio Conte and experiencing the Azzurri's adventure at Euro 2016 in France as President, which ended in the quarter-finals. Among the initiatives of his mandate, the introduction of VAR in Italian football is noteworthy. A historical figure in amateur football, he was also mayor of his hometown Ponte Lambro for almost twenty years. He passed away in January 2023, leaving his mark on the managerial history of Italian football.
