Jersey Joe Walcott, real name Arnold Raymond Cream (Camden, New Jersey, January 31, 1914 – Merchantville, February 25, 1994), was one of the greatest boxers in world boxing history, heavyweight world champion from 1951 to 1952. Nicknamed "The Cinderella Man of Boxing" for his late and tenacious rise to the top of world boxing, he won the WBA title on July 18, 1951, by defeating Ezzard Charles by unanimous decision after years of failed challenges. He is particularly famous for his fight on September 23, 1952, against Rocky Marciano: Walcott knocked down the future undefeated champion in the first round, maintaining the lead for long stretches before succumbing to a technical knockout in the thirteenth round. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990, he is remembered as one of the most intelligent and stylistically refined boxers in the history of the premier category.
