The protagonist: Dario Fo

Dario Fo (San Giano, Leggiuno, March 24, 1926 – Milan, October 13, 2016) was one of the greatest Italian playwrights, actors, directors, and writers of the twentieth century, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1997 for his ability to emulate medieval jesters in scourging power and restoring dignity to the oppressed. Author of iconic works such as Mistero Buffo (1969) — his theatrical masterpiece — Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970) and Can't Pay? Won't Pay! (1974), he created a popular, political, and irreverent theater that influenced generations of artists worldwide. Together with his wife Franca Rame, he founded the Nuova Scena company, bringing theater to factories, cultural centers, and public squares. An uncomfortable and irreplaceable voice of Italian culture, he passed away in 2016: every autograph of his is now an unrepeatable relic.
