Mel Ferrer's Autographed Photo: Black and White Portrait with Original Signature

A highly valuable relic for collectors of classic American and European cinema: Mel Ferrer's autographed photograph, measuring 14.2×10 cm, a black and white portrait that captures his luminous smile and elegant presence, typical of 1950s Hollywood cinema. The shot—a spontaneous and authentic composition, with the actor leaning against a railing in a natural and informal setting—immediately conveys the understated and refined charm that made him one of the most appreciated faces in post-war international cinema. Mel Ferrer's original signature is inscribed with a blue marker in the white area at the bottom of the photograph, in elegant, large, and perfectly legible cursive, with the typical three-dimensionality of an authentic autograph. The condition is Excellent, with the support intact and contrasts perfectly preserved. A piece of absolute rarity linked to the memory of one of the most refined American and European actors of the twentieth century.

The Protagonist: Mel Ferrer

Mel Ferrer (Elberon, New Jersey, August 25, 1917 – Santa Barbara, California, June 2, 2008) was an American actor, director, and producer of great elegance and versatility, protagonist of a long career that led him to work in the most prestigious contexts of Hollywood cinema and international theater. After his beginnings in radio and on Broadway, he established himself in 1950s cinema with prominent roles in highly relevant productions, including the role of the puppeteer Stromboli in the film Lili (1953), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and the leading role in King Vidor's War and Peace (1956), a great international epic based on Tolstoy's novel. Emotionally and professionally linked to Audrey Hepburn—to whom he was married from 1954 to 1968—he shared with her some of the brightest seasons of his artistic life, including the theatrical production of Ondine on Broadway. He then continued his career in Europe, becoming a sought-after presence in Italian and Spanish cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. His signature is today a rare collector's document, linked to one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of classic American cinema.

COA Certificate of Authenticity

This autograph comes with a free MTM Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and a COA Certificate of Authenticity issued exclusively by the most authoritative independent third-party certifying bodies in the world of collecting (PSA, JSA, Beckett, Epperson, Autograph COA, or Associazione Autografia)—both included in the price.

What is an original autographed photograph?

An original autographed photograph is a unique piece where the protagonist's signature has been affixed directly to the support in certified presence, without intermediaries. It differs significantly from printed reproductions or facsimiles by several verifiable elements: the irregular and natural pressure of the stroke, the three-dimensionality of the ink on the support, the spontaneity of the graphic gesture. In addition to these visual elements, a free MTM Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and an independent certifying body's COA are included in the price. The collectible value of a certified autographed photograph grows over time in relation to its historical relevance, the rarity of available signatures on the market, and the international popularity of the subject.
