The scene takes place on the pitch of the Olympic Stadium in Athens on the evening of May 18, 1994, after the historic 4-0 final victory against Johan Cruijff's "Dream Team" Barcelona — one of the most sensational results in the history of the European Cup. Fabio Capello (San Canzian d'Isonzo, June 18, 1946) is one of the most successful coaches in the history of Italian and world football. After a career as a midfielder with Roma, Juventus, and Milan, he began his coaching career with AC Milan in 1991, taking over from Arrigo Sacchi. In four seasons at Milan, he won four Scudetti (1991/92, 1992/93, 1993/94, and 1995/96), three Italian Supercups, and the 1993/94 European Cup — a memorable final won 4-0 against a Barcelona team considered the absolute favorite, with a brace from Massaro and goals from Savićević and Desailly. His career then led him to win two more Scudetti with Roma and Juventus, two Spanish titles with Real Madrid, and to manage the English and Russian national teams. Included in the IFFHS World Coach of the Decade for the 2000s, he is among the few coaches to have won in five countries.
