Cesare Bovo's Player Issued jersey: a piece of Palermo's European history

The Away jersey of Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo for the 2010/2011 season in its Player Issued version is a rare and particularly significant relic of Italian football of the 2010s. Made by Legea in white and pink, it features the finishes and technical details reserved for the team supply, distinct from the commercial versions intended for fans. On the sleeve, the official UEFA Europa League patch stands out, a competition Palermo qualified for after finishing fifth in Serie A the previous season: according to UEFA regulations at the time, jerseys prepared for European matches could not feature a shirt sponsor related to the betting sector, hence the absence of the Eurobet brand on the chest, which was present in the domestic version. The back is personalized with the number 5, worn by Cesare Bovo during his time with the Rosanero. The item is preserved in Excellent condition, with intact colors and fabrics despite the time passed since its production.

The player: Cesare Bovo

Cesare Bovo (Rome, January 14, 1983) is an Italian central defender who built a long and solid career between Serie A and Serie B, distinguishing himself for tactical reliability and the ability to play multiple roles in the defensive line. Having come through the Roma youth system, he played for Lecce, Parma, and Torino on loan before joining Palermo, a club with which he experienced the most intense years of his career between 2006 and 2011, consistently wearing the number 5 jersey. With the Rosanero, he experienced the historic qualification for the UEFA Europa League and the dramatic conclusion of the 2010/2011 Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan, in which he scored the opening goal before being sent off a few minutes from the end. After his time in Palermo, he continued his career with Genoa, Torino, Pescara, and Lecce, before returning to Palermo as a youth sector coach. His number 5 jersey from that period therefore represents a valuable sporting document of one of the most European seasons in the recent history of the Sicilian club.

What is a Player Issued jersey?

A Player Issued jersey is a kit prepared specifically for a certain player but not necessarily worn in an official match. It differs from the commercial version due to a series of precise technical characteristics: professional finishes, internal labels with the player's name and number, match cut and materials, exclusive technical details reserved for the team supply. It is hierarchically superior to the store version and inferior only to the Match Worn. For collectors, it represents an authentic piece of high historical and commercial value, often impossible to find on the market years after its production.
